So the doof is around midland but further up on the great eastern
highway, for arounddd 50 km, maybe less.
till you hit the greath southern highway then go onto that for around 15-20 km
then down an intense road for could be 20 mins which then opens up when you hit the gate.
the doof: A.K.A ( giant bush party )
two cars at the doof collect money to cover petrol money for a huge generator, plus al the equiptment needed (and anything else).
after you go through the gate it rolls down into campsite, which is hugeeee and more like a sort of settlement, from like three hundred years ago. everyone sort of knows everyone and even if you dont know anyone you sort of just roam around and make friends at other peoples sites. From the campsite you go down to where the music is ( we call it the D-Pit) and that is usually a big tarped area with lights all around and the dj's up on scaffolding.
first night was supposedly really busy with like more people you see at local concerts, we had less, but it was still huge!
music was great, a mix between psytrance, and heaps of like iunno, high tech electronic stuff.
highlight of the doof in terms of music for me was king owl, a great new DJ who is also doing some sort of, crazy smart stuff at UWA, he was really great and his set was super good too. he is part of one of the local records called collective resistance, he does gigs all the time and ill deffinatly be checking out the next oone. none of the DJ's get paid though, they do it because they love doing it. Which is the way it should be!
there were several crews that came together to make this one, but one of the organisers does most of the doofs I go to, its really just him and his friends that built a community from the ground up, most of his doofs are smaller and they are more just like a huge party, but even at large scale ones like this one the atmsphere is something you dont get anywhere else, everyone is so friendly and no matter who you talk to everyone is friendly, best place to go to just make friends and have fun.
doesnt matter who you are or who they are outside the doof, when your there everyone is there to just chill out and have fun.
it was the coldest doof ide been to in perth which was expected as winter gets closer and the doof season comes to an end. They had a fire though which everyone put old couches around and just chilled out, seeing as some had been here for two days already.
as you walk around you meet sooooo many backpackers who hardly spoke english but managed to find theyre way into the middle of nowhere for a huge party. Though I never figured out how they manage to find these things, I lived in perth for five years before I came to a doof... I guess they go to it because they have similar sort of things at home, that go for like 2 weeks and so its a small part of home but with new people to meet for them.
so the night went by, great tunes, great vibes and a really good doof and the sun came up which was to everyone’s satisfaction because it got down to around 7-8 degrese over night, and at this stage the music is still going. Everyone is sitting down for abit of a chill by the fire, maybe abit of a sleep, and start to orginise any food leftover. and at this point i had made my way around the doof to join up with someone else’s camping group and so we just sat around and talked about stuff, until we found we'd lost Aarons car keys.
this then turned into a full scale community search with like, half the doof on the lookout ( they turned out to be in the esky the HOLE time)
from there we went on to breakfast and morning chills whilst everyone started to pack themselves up, once it starts to warm up thats when your camping spot becomes relevant, no shade means your going to have a shit day.
so thennnn we just chilled around what was left of our fire till we left around... well iunno, around 1 or something, with no sleeps since around two days before and a hard days work in between!
there was only the real hard mongers left if not less left at this point, and the organiser was staying till Tuesday evening to pack up and clean up a hole doofs shit, which is the most important part, means we can always come back again for another great doof!
