Review
For the first time in 2011 Local Heroes Parkway Drive hit up the stage at Byron Bay high school last night. What was firstly a compilation of both heavy acts and international pop punk bands, the show ended up as the typical hardcore show that Byron fans continue to show up to in the hundreds if not thousands. Last night’s show certainly did not fail to please the massive turn out and with the second Parkway Drive DVD being filmed in this tour the crowd put out a show that no one could ever forget. Byron Bay hardcore has always been known as being different from the rest but last night’s show took it to the next level.
From the usual rubber boats and surf board stage dives to shark suits and the odd streaker, it was a show worth filming. Also on the bill were Ohio’s heaviest Miss May I who exceeded everyone’s expectations and pumped up the crowd for the final act.
The odd man out was Philadelphia punk rockers, The Wonder Years. They put out an amazing show and acknowledged they’re odd placement in such a heavy tour but really gave the show a different feel and gave the punk rockers the show they wanted.
Although this being what will probably be the only Parkway Drive show in Byron for the year as they head over to Europe in the coming months it was an unforgettable night for every single person there. The crowd gave it everything they had and brought a new level of madness to the high school with some of the biggest stage dives to date. As we say goodbye to another year of parkway drive, we will all sit back and wait for the next show and with the upcoming dvd we will all be able to look back on what has been one the most memorable nights in Byron Bay hardcore history
